This day tour from Sendai takes you to Zao Fox Village in Miyagi and Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata in a single day. At Zao Fox Village, walk through a forest where more than 100 foxes roam freely and meet several species, including red foxes, silver foxes and arctic foxes. For lunch you can try Shiroishi umen, a noodle with over 400 years of history, and in the afternoon you'll stroll freely through Ginzan Onsen, a Taisho-era hot spring town with wooden ryokan lining the river. Choose between departing from Sendai Station or hotel pickup in central Sendai for a comfortable trip without worrying about public transport.
The tour starts in Sendai at 8:30 AM. Meet at the east exit of Sendai Station, or if you choose the hotel pickup option, board the vehicle at your hotel in central Sendai. Depending on the group size on the day, you'll travel in a small-group vehicle (1-13 people) or a bus (14-45 people).
Arrive at Zao Fox Village in Shiroishi, Miyagi around 9:50 AM and explore at your own pace. More than 100 foxes roam freely in the forest, and you can see 6 species including Hokkaido red foxes, silver foxes, arctic foxes (blue and white) and platinum foxes. Rabbits, goats and miniature ponies also live here, and there's a fox-themed souvenir shop. Admission is not included and is paid on site.
Around 11:00 AM, stop at Tsuriganean in Shiroishi for about 50 minutes of lunch (at your own expense). Shiroishi umen is a local specialty with over 400 years of history: short, handmade wheat noodles made without oil, light and easy to digest.
Arrive at Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata around 2:00 PM and explore freely for about 90 minutes. Take the shuttle from Taisho Roman-kan to the town, walk along the wooden ryokan lining the Ginzan River, and enjoy the free footbath (Waraku Ashiyu), souvenir shops and street food. Depart for Sendai around 3:30 PM and arrive at JR Sendai Station around 6:00 PM; guests with hotel pickup are dropped off at their accommodation.
