Enjoy a casual 30-minute traditional Japanese tea ceremony at the Japanese culture experience space "AN" in Sendai. You hear a short talk on the history and meaning of the tea ceremony and watch a demonstration of grinding matcha with a millstone to learn about traditional tools and techniques. Then you take part in the ceremony, make your own matcha and savor it with the Japanese sweet "ohigashi". It is a short experience that is perfect for taking a break and feeling Japanese culture during your trip to Sendai.

Learn the history of tea
and watch matcha being ground
The experience begins with a short explanation of the history and meaning of the tea ceremony. You then watch a demonstration of grinding matcha with a millstone and learn about the traditional tools and techniques used in the ceremony.
Make your own matcha in the ceremony
Next, you take part in the tea ceremony (otemae) and make matcha yourself. Following the calm ritual, you can savor the rich taste of the tea. After the ceremony, there is time to capture the moment in photos.
Relax with matcha and ohigashi
The experience lasts about 20 minutes, after which you relax and enjoy matcha with the Japanese sweet ohigashi. You leave the room at around 30 minutes.
