Bali Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting

What a day! our Driver Ismail was awesome, picking us up at the crack of dawn and taking us to start the hike. Our tracking guide Luna was fantastic too, she took us up the mountain at a streay pace with plenty of chance for rest. if you've done any hiking before you will have no issue with the mountain. after a stunning sunrise Ismail took us to coffee tasting and rafting with some picture spots and information along the way. Our tour guide/ driver Kadek Putra was amazing overall. He was very good at driving, felt safe the whole time. Jesenn, our hiking guide for Mount Batur was amazing. She was encouraging the whole way. After the hike Kadek took us to a coffee plantation tour where we got to sample lots of coffee and tea which was an added bonus! I am grateful for such an asking experience!

I do some exercise, but I have very little hiking experience, and since I’m in my late 50s, I felt a bit anxious at first. However, it turned out there was absolutely no problem at all. The guide was always attentive to how everyone was doing, so I never felt uneasy. Although there were occasional light rain and mist, the sky gradually cleared at the summit, and we were able to enjoy the sunrise and the views. I highly recommend this experience. For clothing, a quick-dry base layer is best (I wore a short-sleeved T-shirt, while others wore long sleeves). At the summit, since your clothes will be damp with sweat, the temperature is lower, and there can be some wind, it’s important to put on a windproof outer layer. For footwear, trekking shoes with good grip are recommended. Low-cut shoes are more than sufficient.

Our actual activities were absolutely brilliant me and a friend did the sunrise hike followed by the white water rafting. It’s so great for the price, we got transport from our hostel to the sunrise hike, then transport from the hike to rafting and from rafting straight back to our hostel! Our driver D was fab and looked after us really well. Our guide up and down the mountain Manggie was so kind and patient with us we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. You get a filling breakfast at the top of the mountain and coffee and biscuits before, then lunch after the rafting. Our only regret was booking these as a package. The activities were brilliant but it’s best to do one a day, because we got up so early for the hike (picked up at 2:30am) to make it in time for the sunrise and the hike is very demanding then during the rafting straight after we were really tired. In total it was a 12 hour day.
