This small-group tour departs from Bali and takes you to East Java's iconic volcanoes and waterfall over 3 days and 2 nights. Climb Ijen Crater in the middle of the night to look for the blue fire phenomenon, then greet the sunrise from the crater rim. After looking down on the curtain-like Tumpak Sewu Waterfall from a viewpoint, ride a 4WD jeep on the final day to a Mount Bromo sunrise viewpoint. Ferry tickets, 2 nights at homestays, 7 meals and entrance fees are included, so the long transfers and accommodation are all taken care of.
After pickup from your accommodation in Bali, drive 3–4 hours to Gilimanuk Port. On the way, you'll pass Bali's rural villages, coastal scenery and West Bali National Park. At the port, board a public ferry connecting Bali and East Java and cross the Bali Strait in 45–60 minutes.
On arrival in Banyuwangi, enjoy a local lunch and join a guided trek through lush terraced rice fields. Check in to a homestay near Ijen, have dinner and rest early for the midnight trek.
Around midnight, drive to Paltuding, the Ijen base camp, receive a gas mask and headlamp, and start the roughly 3 km uphill hike. Carefully descend from the crater rim to see the blue fire phenomenon and sulfur miners at work (subject to local regulations). Return to the rim to enjoy the sunrise and the view of the crater lake, then walk back down to the base camp for a warm breakfast.
After breakfast, drive for about 6 hours with a lunch stop on the way. At Tumpak Sewu, walk to the edge of the canyon to look down on the huge curtain-like waterfall and take photos and videos from the panoramic viewpoint. Then drive about 2.5 hours to the cool Mount Bromo area and check in to a homestay.
On the last day, board a 4WD jeep in front of the homestay in the early morning and head to King Kong Hill or Penanjakan viewpoint. Watch the sky above the Bromo caldera turn from deep purple to golden orange, then descend into the caldera and walk across the volcanic sand plain (about 1.5 km). Climb 250 concrete steps to reach the rim of the active Mount Bromo crater, then return to the homestay for breakfast and check-out.
