Abisko Ice Fishing Experience - Fishing Gear and Warm Clothing Provided

Learn to ice fish on a frozen
lake near Abisko

This is a roughly 2-hour ice fishing experience departing from Abisko. Travel to the lake by car or snowmobile, learn how to drill a hole in the ice and how to use the equipment, then fish yourself. Fishing gear, bait, warm drinks, light snacks and warm clothing are provided, and an English-speaking guide leads the tour.

Travel to the lake by car or snowmobile

The tour starts at Abisko Guesthouse (Experience Abisko). Early in the season the tour usually goes to a small lake near Abisko, and later in the season to the large lake Torne Träsk north of Abisko.

Drill a hole and look into the water

When you reach the lake, your guide shows you how to drill a hole in the ice and how to use the fishing equipment properly. In many lakes the water is so clear that you can look down the hole and watch fish swim up to the bait. No fishing experience or equipment is needed.

Catch Arctic char and grayling

The most commonly caught fish are Arctic char, grayling and perch. With some luck you may also catch whitefish or trout. If you wish, you can take fish above the minimum size for each species home to eat, and the guide can help you clean the fish and give cooking tips.
