Ellie was such an engaging and pleasant guide and you can tell that she is an expert on the topic. Her tour is up to date, objective and considerate, and she is able to explain complex issues and history clearly to every level. I could have listened to her for another hour, and most participants stayed to ask more questions after the tour. I appreciated a trigger warning she gave before entering a space where violent stories from defectors were presented. Highly recommend!

Program

One hour with a curator
an exhibition on everyday life in North Korea

This is a curator-led tour in English at the NKDB North Korean Human Rights Exhibition Hall in Jongno, Seoul. Visitors are limited to 20 per day, and it runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The visit takes about 1 hour, and part of each ticket supports NKDB’s testimony-recording work.

Look into a day in recreated living spaces

"Myeongju’s Room" and "A Day in North Korea" are spaces recreated to reflect the daily lives of ordinary North Koreans. Through household items, music, photos and personal traces, you encounter the experiences of people across the border.

Hear stories through authentic belongings

The curator explains carefully selected authentic objects and personal belongings. These items are rarely shown to the public and are set in carefully designed storytelling zones that help you understand North Korean society more deeply.

Learn about NKDB’s human rights documentation

NKDB is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving testimonies and raising awareness of North Korean human rights. The tour includes insights from real testimonies collected by NKDB, and you can make an additional donation on site.
