Experience an authentic Turkish bath at Şifa Hamam, an Ottoman-era hamam in Sultanahmet, Istanbul's Old City, that has been operating since 1777. In a space decorated with elegant domes and marble, you warm up in the steam, then enjoy a kese glove scrub and a rich foam massage. It is a mixed-gender shared hamam, but treatments are given by a therapist of the same gender, so couples, friends and solo travelers can all feel comfortable. Choose from a 60-minute classic session up to a 120-minute full service with oil and foot massages and a face mask.
Şifa Hamam is a historic Turkish bath near Sultanahmet Square, just a few steps from Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace. Built in the Ottoman era and still operating today, it is one of the few hamams in Istanbul where men and women can enjoy the bathing ritual together in the same space. For comfort and privacy, treatments are given by a therapist of the same gender.
The ritual begins in the warm room. For about 30 minutes, the steam and heat relax your muscles and open your pores, and then your whole body is exfoliated with a disposable kese glove.
You receive a rich foam massage on the warm marble platform. The Special Hamam (90 minutes) adds a 30-minute full-body oil massage, and the Full Service (120 minutes) adds a full-body oil massage, a 15-minute foot massage and a face mask.
After your treatment, relax with tea in the cool resting area. Towels, slippers, a peshtemal (wrap cloth), olive oil soap, linden shampoo, hair cream and body lotion are provided, and you can store your belongings in a locker.
