From Cairns: Fitzroy Island Full-Day Self-Guided Trip - Return Ferry Included

Such a great day!

Fitzroy island is amazing. Saw heaps of fish and turtles. Beautiful aqua waters. Viral beaches are different. Great hikes. Ferry providers could have given their spoken instructions before the ferry engine started. Very difficult to hear and understand. The German couple opposite us spoke quite good English but had no idea what was being said as the voice over spoke way too fast! Nothing in the tv screens, no people coming around to check we understood. Staff hardly interacted with anyone. A bit average if you ask me.

We had relatively bad weather. The sea was quite rough. I found the boat transport in the choppy sea to be an experience. Snorkeling was hardly possible due to the weather. The coral reefs were practically dead; during two 20-minute snorkeling sessions, I only saw one sea turtle; probably due to the rough sea, no fish were visible at all. The whole activity should be classified as a tourist gimmick rather than a nature experience. Nevertheless, the price-performance ratio is okay, except for those seeking a snorkeling experience in a coral reef!

Great day trip to do when you're in Cairns. The ride there and back was smooth and there was someone going around with a map of the island. She was also there to explain and answer any questions we had and if you wanted to add on anything for the trip. She pointed out the best location for snorkeling and did not disappoint! Saw turtles and fish and the visibility was pretty good. Nudey beach was nice to walk around and sit, take pictures. You can hike to the lighthouse and summit which I highly recommend if you like hiking. It wasn't that far of a hike and the views on the top of the mountain were amazing. There is a cafe for food and drinks.
