From Cairns: Fitzroy Island Day Trip by Return Ferry

What a super day! The boat was a bit old, but fine for a 45-minute trip! The island was truly amazing. Our tips: start with the 2 hikes to the top and the small lighthouse to beat the heat. Book the snorkel gear along with it, this is really a must. You can snorkel right from the start, and there's a high chance of seeing turtles here. Then, do the short hike towards the small beach; this offers a truly great view and is one of the most special places for snorkeling. Super beautiful coral and lots of fish! We even swam with a squid and a stingray! Finally, eat a delicious burger at the cafe with a great view!

Overall, was a good trip and definitely worth visiting the island. Didn’t end up snorkelling due to the weather being cold, rainy and overcast, which was a shame and made the full day on the island harder to fill. Would recommend the shorter trip to the island if not planning to do activities such as snorkelling or hiking. The view from the top of the island and lighthouse was lovely. It is a difficult track to walk in things/sandals and I ended up hurting my knee as a result- my fault for not taking runners. The boat trip on the way back to the main island broke down a few times, so we were stuck in very rocky waves. Staff were great distributing bags for guests. Arrived about 45 min later than scheduled. I do recommend going, just take considerations based on my experience and others feedback.

Expensive activity for a simple transfer. Not enough space outside on the boat. Air conditioning too cold inside.
