Meet the Palace and Gardens of Versailles, plus Temporary Exhibitions and the Trianon Palaces
The word 'magnificent' is synonymous with the Palace of Versailles, and a single visit will reveal why. We must admire the opulent interiors of the Palace of Versailles and encounter Marie Antoinette's Hamlet when traveling in France! The grandeur is particularly evident in the Hall of Mirrors, a 75-meter long gallery lined with statues and busts. It features 17 arched windows, each adorned with 21 individual mirrors, meaning light reflects off a total of 357 mirrors! As one of France's most popular UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Palace of Versailles is a must-see.
Getting to the Palace of Versailles: Our Recommendation

The best way to reach the Palace of Versailles is by taking the RER C train line. Since the RER C connects Versailles from the Musée d'Orsay, we personally recommend visiting the Musée d'Orsay first and then heading to Versailles. To check exact train times, it's advisable to install the 'Citymapper' transport app. Use the app to see when trains are arriving, board one, and alight at the Versailles Château Rive Gauche station – you'll be right at the palace.
Operating Hours Vary by Location!

Versailles offers more than just the palace; there are many attractions like the Trianon Palaces and gardens. Did you know their opening hours differ? The Palace and Trianon Palaces are open daily except Mondays. The Palace opens at 9:00 AM, while the Trianon Palaces open at 12:00 PM. The park and gardens are also open daily. You can explore the gardens, except on days with fountain shows and musical gardens. (As of 2023, the Musical Fountain Show is scheduled for weekends during the summer, Musical Gardens from Tuesdays to Fridays, and Fountain Nights every Saturday night and on Thursday, July 14 / Monday, August 15). It's essential to check the event schedule for your visit date! For easy access to operating information, click here.
Enhance Your Visit to Versailles

Once inside the Palace of Versailles, you can listen to audio guides in various languages for free. Simply install the Palace app (WAUG tickets include a downloadable audio guide). Alternatively, audio guides are available within the palace itself. Choose one option to enhance your experience.
Follow in the Footsteps of Marie Antoinette

While Louis XIV built the Palace of Versailles, Marie Antoinette significantly shaped it to suit her lifestyle. Her bedroom is a particularly good place to trace her presence. Marie Antoinette used this bedroom from 1770 to 1789, and remarkably, it was fully open to the public, allowing everyone within the palace to witness everything from the Queen's waking moments to her childbirth.
Exploring Versailles with Marie Antoinette's life in mind makes the visit even more fascinating.
Stroll Through the Grand Trianon Estate

After Louis XV's death, Marie Antoinette was gifted the Grand Trianon estate by Louis XVI, becoming the first queen to own property. She subsequently undertook extensive renovations, transforming the estate in the then-popular Anglo-Chinese style. The surrounding grounds are perfect for a stroll, offering glimpses into her refined tastes.
Don't Miss the Photo Ops in the Gardens

While the palace is grand and magnificent from afar, the gardens reveal the most intricate details as you wander through them. This makes them a prime spot for photos, with numerous picturesque locations. Be sure to visit on a day without a fountain show to fully appreciate the gardens. You haven't truly experienced Versailles without exploring its gardens.
