The magnificent castle of the Loire,
Azerlido Castle
Visit the Castle of Azerlido, located near the Loire River in France. Castle Azerido is famous as one of the representative buildings of the French Renaissance period. As it was a city where numerous nobles lived, the interior of the castle is decorated with ornate and beautiful sculptures. Also, the English-style garden is another attractive point.
Representative buildings of the early Renaissance in France
Azerrido Castle is a 16th-century building that represents the French early Renaissance architectural style. The 12th century lord was the knight Lido d'Ageré, a knight of King Philip II of France. He built a fortress here and monitored military movements along the Indre River.
The castle fell into ruins during the Hundred Years' War, but was rebuilt in the early 16th century by Gilles Berthelot (?~1529), a wealthy financier of King François I.
Gorgeous interior that provides a glimpse into life at the time
The interior of Azeri-Lido Castle began to change in 1535, when King François I confiscated Azeri-Lido Castle despite repeated requests from his wife, Gilles Bertello, and gave it to Antoine Raffin, captain of the royal guard. Afterwards, it was inherited by Lapin's descendants and began to reflect their tastes.
