History of Voltaire Castle

After purchasing the castle in 1759, Voltaire renovated it, created gardens, and made it his ideal living space. He wrote various works here, including novels, poems, and essays, and greatly influenced the French Enlightenment movement. After Voltaire's death in 1778, his legacy passed to his nephew, Denis Diderot. Diderot turned Voltaire Castle into a center for French intellectuals, and famous figures such as Rousseau, Montesquieu, and Diderot visited here.
