Miyamoto Musashi Samurai Experience in Kumamoto

In the city of Miyamoto Musashi, encounter the true Bushido.

This is a samurai experience where you learn directly from the 18th-generation head of the Niten-Ichi-Ryu school, Sensei Matsunaga, in Kumamoto. From the moment you don your gi and enter the dojo, you'll be guided through a series of calming exercises, starting with breathing and mental focus. The structure is easy for beginners to follow, so even if it's your first time, you won't feel overwhelmed.

Training that unites sword and example

This experience isn't just about repeating techniques. By learning basic stances and cutting movements, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the Bushido spirit—the sword is for protection. Intermissions include a cup of matcha and Japanese sweets to calm your mind, and each movement is imbued with will and focus. Upon completion, you'll receive an engraved handkerchief and a certificate, ensuring a lasting memory of the day.

A path that follows Musashi's footsteps

Musashi spent his later years in Kumamoto, where he wrote the Book of Five Rings at Reigando. The dojo is located right next to Kumamoto Castle, so you can tour the castle before and after your experience, seamlessly connecting the city's history with your current training. The intersection of the Path of the Sword and the Kumamoto landscape makes each day even more vivid.

Brief introduction to the schedule

• Arrival & Change - Change into the dobok (approximately 10 minutes)

• Orientation — Learn about the spirit of Bushido and an overview of Iaido with matcha (approximately 10 minutes)

• Instructor Demonstration - Watch the performance in the dojo (approximately 5 minutes)

• Iaido Experience - Practice basic postures and cutting movements (approximately 50 minutes)

• Graduation & Commemorative Photo - Certificate of Completion, Photo Shoot (approximately 10 minutes)

• Change & Finish - Change into your personal attire and finish
