Highlights

Explore the history of Japan from the Edo period as you walk through the East Garden of the Tokyo Imperial Palace! Join a local guide to discover the gates and ruins of the former Edo Castle and the Ninomaru Garden, and hear fascinating stories that connect the samurai, shoguns, and imperial family. This small group tour, limited to 10 people, allows for plenty of questions and offers a fun way to understand the history that shaped modern Japan, going beyond a simple garden stroll.

Program

Discover the History of Edo Castle While Walking Through the Tokyo Imperial Palace Grounds

Begin your tour by meeting your local guide at the Wadakura Fountain Park. As you walk towards the Imperial Palace, learn about the history that stretches from the former Edo Castle and the era of samurai and shoguns to modern Japan through engaging stories.

The tour is conducted in small groups of up to 10 people. Instead of just visiting historical sites, you can deeply understand Japanese history and culture by freely conversing with your guide and asking questions.

From Otemon Gate to the Edo Castle Honmaru Ruins

Pass through Otemon, the main gate of the Imperial Palace, and enter the East Garden. Examine various traces of the former Edo Castle, such as its gates, moats, and water gates, to understand the castle's scale and structure at the time. You'll also visit the Honmaru ruins, where the central buildings of Edo Castle once stood. Although the grand castle buildings no longer remain, you can imagine the Edo Castle of centuries past through the scattered ruins and your guide's narratives. Discover spots that tourists often overlook and ideal photo locations.

Enjoy a Relaxing Stroll Through Ninomaru Garden

After learning about the history, take a leisurely walk through the beautiful Ninomaru Garden. Spend a relaxing time in the heart of Tokyo, surrounded by a pond, walking paths, and seasonal flora. Feel free to ask your guide any questions about Japanese culture or for local recommendations for your Tokyo trip. This tour is recommended for history enthusiasts as well as those who want to thoroughly explore the Imperial Palace and Japanese gardens.

Main Course

※ This tour does not include visits inside the actual palace buildings where the Japanese Imperial family resides. It focuses on the East Garden of the Imperial Palace and the ruins of the former Edo Castle, which are open to the public.
