Learn to brew makgeolli
in a Bukchon hanok
The class begins at Bitdam, a hanok space in Gahoe-dong, where you'll meet your instructor and hear about the history of Korean traditional liquor. You'll also learn about the fermentation process and the unique characteristics of this cloudy, sparkling rice wine.
Add nuruk to steamed rice and start fermenting

With help from the instructor, you'll prepare godubap (steamed rice), the foundation of the drink, by yourself. Then add nuruk, a yeasty grain cake, and water to the rice to start the makgeolli fermentation process.
Filter the brew and taste the undiluted wine

Next, you'll learn how to filter the alcohol. You can taste the filtered result as undiluted rice wine.
Taste 4 traditional drinks from takju to soju

You'll taste 4 different drinks in total, starting with takju, the original rice wine, followed by seasonal makgeolli and a seasonal white wine, and finishing with soju, a distilled rice spirit. Finally, sample seasonal makgeolli and ask the instructor any questions you may have.
※ The drinks served for tasting may vary by season.
