The tour starts with pickup from your downtown hotel lobby. First head to Olympic Park to spend about 20 minutes admiring the illuminated Bird's Nest and Water Cube and learn about these main venues of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Walk Yandai Xiejie and Houhai Lake

Drive past the Bell and Drum Towers surrounded by old hutongs, then stop at Yandai Xiejie, a street known since the Qing Dynasty for tobacco pouches, calligraphy, paintings and jade, to browse traditional souvenirs. At the end of the street lies Houhai Lake, lined with hundreds of bars, where you spend about 20 minutes strolling and experiencing Beijing's nightlife.

Pass the illuminated Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square

Head to the 600-year-old imperial palace, the Forbidden City, to see its illuminated walls and corner towers. Then pass Tiananmen Square as your guide explains the surrounding buildings and history, and drive past the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and Chang'an Avenue, Beijing's main thoroughfare.

End the tour on Qianmen Street

Finally, spend about 20 minutes on Qianmen Street, located on Beijing's historic central axis just south of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Visit the old street lined with traditional shops and the Dashilar snack street before returning to your hotel.
