In Seki, one of Japan's historic knife-making towns, you will make your own Damascus Japanese kitchen knife while learning from a knife craftsman with over 50 years of experience. Hand-draw your name, a message, a symbol or a small picture on the blade, then reveal your design together with the Damascus pattern through etching. After sharpening, polishing and a test cut, you can take your finished knife home the same day along with a certificate. The experience runs in small groups of up to 5 people and includes a Japanese lunch and a visit to a knife museum.

Meet at Sekitomioka Station and travel by car to the G. Sakai Knife Museum. In the workshop, you will spend about 2 hours 30 minutes making a Damascus kitchen knife under the guidance of a craftsman with over 50 years of experience. No prior experience is needed. The craftsman demonstrates each technique step by step, and you can work at your own pace.
You can choose from four knife styles: santoku, gyuto, nakiri and bunka, depending on availability on the day.

Unlike a typical name engraving, you can draw your name, a message, a symbol or a small picture on the blade by hand. Through etching, your hand-drawn design appears together with the Damascus pattern. You then learn sharpening and polishing from the craftsman and check the sharpness with a test cut using your finished knife.

After making your knife, enjoy a Japanese lunch at a local restaurant for about 1 hour. At the knife museum next to G.SAKAI, you can see rare knives, cutlery and blade-related exhibits from Japan and around the world. You then visit the Seki Swordsmith Museum for about 1 hour before returning to Sekitomioka Station, where the tour ends.
At the end of the experience, you take home your handmade Damascus kitchen knife and a certificate.
