On the day of the tour, your guide picks you up from your hotel in downtown Shanghai. Below is the most popular itinerary; you can follow it or work with your guide to tailor it to your interests. You travel in an air-conditioned private vehicle with a dedicated driver.

Wander the Old Town bazaar and Yu Garden

Start in the Old Town, lined with Qing-dynasty architecture. Browse bazaar shops selling art, accessories and crafts, cross the Nine-Turn Zigzag Bridge and see a 400-year-old teahouse. You can shop for souvenirs or try Shanghai's famous soup dumplings (xiaolongbao).

Next, visit the 500-year-old Yu Garden. With your guide, explore the classical gardens and tranquil halls, the famous dragon wall, the rockery and pond-side pavilions while hearing about Shanghai's culture and history.

Stroll the Bund and take a ferry to Pudong

Head to the Bund, pass the "Lovers' Wall" and walk along the Huangpu River embankment. See historic buildings such as the Peace Hotel and the Old Customs House alongside the modern skyline, including the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower and the "Bottle Opener" Shanghai World Financial Center.

Then take a ferry to Pudong and walk the skywalk between the skyscrapers. On clear days you can go up to an observation deck at Shanghai Tower, the Oriental Pearl Tower or Jin Mao Tower for a view over the city (admission extra).

Swap in other sights to suit your interests

You can also stroll the shopping street Nanjing Road or explore the European-style streets of the French Concession. Returning visitors can choose other places to suit their time and interests, such as the 100-year-old Jade Buddha Temple, Tianzifang, Shanghai Museum, the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre or AP Plaza Market. At the end, you are dropped off at your downtown hotel or another downtown location on request.
