See the Gateway of India and British-era architecture

First visit the Gateway of India, built in the British era for royal visits and major events. Right next to it stands the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel overlooking Bombay Harbour. Then head to Oval Maidan, a cricket ground built by the British, and see the Rajabai Clock Tower, the University of Mumbai and Art Deco buildings from the 1920s and 1930s.

Visit the seafront, Malabar Hill and Gandhi's house

Pass along Marine Drive, the seafront boulevard where locals come for the sea breeze, and visit Kamala Nehru Park and the Hanging Gardens on Malabar Hill, known for greenery and city views. You also visit Mani Bhavan, the house where Mahatma Gandhi lived in Mumbai, now a museum.

See Dhobi Ghat, CSMT and Crawford Market

Watch traditional washermen at work at the open-air laundry of Dhobi Ghat, and listen to your guide at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), a railway station blending Gothic and Indian architecture. Finally, browse Crawford Market, an old market full of fresh fruit, vegetables and dried fruit.
