Explore Basianshan,
once one of Taiwan's three major forest farms

Basianshan Forest Recreation Area was once one of Taiwan's three major forest farms. According to records, the mountain was discovered in 1911 and named Baxian Mountain because its elevation of about 2,410 meters sounds like "Baxian". Its forestry history began in 1917, and the former wood factory is now the forest recreation area.

Surrounded by mountains, the summit overlooks the continuous ranges of Yushan, Nenggao and Qilai. The forests are green and full of birds, and the Shiwen and Jiabao streams meet inside the park. Along the rocky streams with rapids, it is a great place for hiking, forest bathing, bird watching and relaxing.

Walk the three forest bathing trails

The park has three trails designed for forest bathing. The "Mengzong Bamboo Forest - Shrine and Primary School Ruins" trail passes the monument to Taiwan's eight scenic spots, the shrine ruins and Jinghai Temple, where you can glimpse the area's past prosperity. Along the way are a deep bamboo forest and a giant Xiaonan tree, and the Baxianshan hiking trailhead is also here.

The other two, "Shiwen Riverside - Upstream" and "Downhill Step - Dam Area", follow the streams and are refreshing waterside trails, especially pleasant in summer.
