The venue is the American Cathedral in Paris, a neo-Gothic church that symbolizes the friendship between France and the United States. On arrival, enter the cathedral and take any seat you like within the reserved area. Wait for the concert to begin in a calm atmosphere away from the bustle of the city.
8:30 pm: the choir opens a cappella
Around 15 professional choristers dressed in mauve take the stage and sing gospel and Negro spiritual classics a cappella, such as "Amazing Grace", "This Little Light of Mine", "Oh When the Saints" and "Go Down, Moses". A saxophonist and pianist sometimes join the choir to enrich the performance.
Sing and clap along with the choir
The songs tell the story of slavery and carry messages of resilience, love and peace. During the concert, the audience is invited to sing and clap along. The concert ends at around 10:00 pm.
