This sitar and tabla recital takes place at Théâtre Mandapa in Paris's 13th arrondissement. The concert lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and you can enjoy Indian classical music in the venue's acoustics.
The sitar is a virtuosic string instrument used in North Indian classical music to bring out traditional ragas, while the tabla is a percussion instrument that highlights subtle changes in rhythm. Hindustani music is performed in North India, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and together with the Carnatic music of South India it is one of the two main genres of Indian classical music.
Dipsankar is a fourth-generation sitar player from a family of musicians. He began his musical journey in childhood under the guidance of his father, Pandit Hara Shankar Bhattacharya, and with advice from Padma Bhushan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan. Abhirup Roy is a tabla player who studied under a master of the Benares Gharana. He is recognised by musicians in Kolkata and is also active in composition and music projects in many countries.
