and see Yeongdo through local eyes
Meet your local host at Nampo Station and take a city bus to Yeongdo. On the bus, listen to the audio guide with an MP3 player and headphones, featuring the sea views along the route, background stories of the neighborhoods and interviews with locals. Bus fares are included in the tour.
Learn Hangeul over tea in a Bongsan Village house
The first stop is Bongsan Village on the hillside road (Sanbok-doro). Visit a house on the hillside road, enjoy the sea views over coffee or tea, and learn about the history and everyday culture of the area through a short presentation (about 55 minutes).
Next, learn the basics of Hangeul and write your name in Korean step by step. You can complete your own postcard set with the name card you made and take it home.
Walk the seaside alleys of Huinnyeoul Culture Village
The second stop is Huinnyeoul Culture Village, known for its wide sea views and narrow alleys. Walk along the coast to enjoy Yeongdo's unique scenery and hear stories behind Korean film and drama locations (about 25 minutes).
Pass Kkangkkangi Art Village and cross Yeongdo Bridge
The third stop, Kkangkkangi Art Village, is an old shipyard district with a history of ship repair and port work. See how the old shipyard district became an art village and discover traces of local daily life along the harbor road (about 25 minutes).
Finally, walk across Yeongdo Bridge back to the starting point in Nampo. From the bridge, see ships, port facilities and Jagalchi Market up close, and hear about the memories of war refugees at the Hyun In song monument.
