BESTThere were paintings by various artists, and it was nice to be able to see various water lily works at the Monet exhibition hall in the basement.
Meet the works of the master Monet,
Marmottan Museum
There is no other museum that has as many of Monet's paintings as Musee Marmottan Monet. You can see about 100 of Monet's masterpieces in one place. In addition, you can see them together with other works by other great artists representing Impressionism.
Works by Gauguin, Renoir, Degas and others are from Monet's personal collection. Admission to temporary exhibitions is also included.
The Marmottan Museum Story
The building of the Musee Marmottan Monet was formerly the villa of Christophe Kellermann (1737-1820), the Duke of Valmy in eastern France and commander of the French army, where he enjoyed hunting in the Bois de Boulogne and rested. In 1882, Jules Marmottan, a businessman and art collector, purchased the villa and used it as a residence and art storage, starting with the collection of various works of art.
A museum sponsored by Monet's son
The Marmottan Museum began to collect Monet's works in earnest under the patronage of Michel Monet, the second son of French impressionist painter Claude Monet. In 1996, he donated paintings he had inherited from his father to the Art Society, and the society sent these works back to the Marmottan Museum, where Monet's works began to be exhibited. Afterwards, as it acquired the most Monet works, it changed its name to the 'Martin Monet Museum.'
Simple interior meeting
The museum is two stories above ground and one underground. The basement level is a special exhibition room displaying Monet's works, and the first and second floors display furniture from the Napoleonic era and works by impressionist painters such as Renoir and Gauguin.
The Musée Marmottan Monet also houses over 300 Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist works. You can also see paintings, drawings, sculptures, miniatures, furniture, bronzes, and ceramics collected by Paul Marmottan, who was interested in works from the reign of Napoléon I.
