About Vaux-le-Vicomte

Designed by the renowned French architect Louis Le Vau (1612–1670), known for his classical style, Vaux-le-Vicomte features a grand dome and opulent interiors, rivaling the splendor of Versailles.
The Lavish Interior

The interior was beautifully decorated by Charles Le Brun (1619–1690), a famous painter and artist of the time, with painted frescoes, gold gilding, sculptures, and ceiling paintings. This lavishness was due to Nicolas Fouquet's desire for ultimate splendor. However, the sad legend is that he was severely criticized by the royal court, imprisoned, and had his property confiscated because of it.
Geometric Gardens

The gardens of Vaux-le-Vicomte were created by landscape architect André Le Nôtre (1613–1700). The gardens surrounding the castle are particularly famous for their geometric shapes and are considered some of the finest in the Île-de-France region.
