Hawaii Big Island Captain Cook Snorkeling Tour (Kealakekua Bay & Catamaran)

Embark on the Hoku Nui to Kealakekua Bay, home of the Captain Cook Monument

Check in at Keauhou Bay at 8:15 AM and board the 50-foot sailing catamaran, Hoku Nui. Set sail at 8:30 AM, heading south along the Kona coast towards Kealakekua Bay, where a tropical breakfast will be served onboard.

During the journey, receive a briefing from marine naturalists on coral reef ecosystems, Hawaiian marine life, and responsible snorkeling practices. Your destination is the Kealakekua Bay Marine Life Conservation District, protected since 1969. Enjoy vibrant snorkeling in the clear waters near the Captain Cook Monument.

Look for a variety of tropical fish, including Yellow Tang, Moorish Idol, and the Hawaii state fish, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. With luck, you might also encounter Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, Spinner Dolphins, or Eagle Rays.

Snorkel again at Red Hill if sea conditions are favorable

After leaving Kealakekua Bay, if daily sea conditions permit, head to Red Hill for a second snorkeling experience. This location offers a different underwater landscape compared to Kealakekua Bay, featuring submerged lava arches and lava tubes formed by volcanic activity.

Following your snorkeling adventure, enjoy a deli-style buffet lunch and non-alcoholic beverages onboard as you return to Keauhou Bay. Alcoholic beverages, including local beers, wines, and cocktails, are available for separate purchase after snorkeling concludes. The tour lasts approximately 4.5 hours, returning around 1:00 PM for an 8:30 AM departure.
