From Sunset to Stars on Hawaii's Mauna Kea

Meet your guide in Kailua-Kona or Waikoloa and embark on a journey to Mauna Kea aboard a 4WD van. Acclimatize to the altitude at the Onizuka Visitor Information Station, don your provided snow parkas, ski pants, and gloves, then ascend to the summit of Mauna Kea at approximately 13,800 feet.

After marveling at the majestic sunset from the summit, descend to about 12,000 feet for an hour of incredible stargazing. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the cosmos, and you'll have the opportunity for DSLR photos with the sunset and stars. These photos will be provided free of charge after the tour. A light meal is also included, allowing you to comfortably enjoy your evening on Mauna Kea.

Sunset Above the Clouds at Mauna Kea's 13,800ft Summit

After sufficient acclimatization at the Onizuka Visitor Information Center, we'll drive up to the Mauna Kea summit in a 4WD van. We aim to arrive about 60 minutes before sunset, giving you ample time to soak in the surrounding scenery. Witness the spectacular view of the Big Island unfolding above the clouds and the magnificent sight of the sun dipping below the horizon. Your guide will capture stunning photos of you with the sunset as a backdrop using a DSLR camera, ensuring you preserve this special moment on Mauna Kea.

Capture Unforgettable Photos Under a Canopy of Stars

Once the sunset concludes, we'll descend to approximately 12,000 feet for an hour of dedicated stargazing. Your guide will illuminate the night sky with explanations of the stars and celestial bodies visible, making your cosmic journey even more engaging. DSLR photography sessions will also take place with the stars as your backdrop. The captured sunset and stargazing photos are provided free of charge and will be sent to your smartphone at the end of the tour. Please note that the locations and times for sunset and stargazing may vary based on the day's weather and local conditions.
