All the itinerary was like a dream :) Start in the afternoon until late at night before the summit visit center ➡️ Summit sunset ➡️ Go to the stargazing point to observe the stars It was such a simple schedule, but the guide was always kind and considerate! I was very worried about the bad weather until I went up, but when I went up, the weather was really nice and it was so good. Since the guide is a veteran, he knows the star points very well, and we all remember it as a very satisfying and enjoyable tour. I don't know if I'll ever go back to the Big Island in the future, but I definitely want to use this tour again 😄 Thank you for the guide!!

An unforgettable impression,
Mauna Kea Stargazing Tour

Enjoy a beautiful sunset at Mauna Kea Volcano on Hawaii's Big Island, located 4,205 meters above sea level, and see unforgettable beautiful stars at Mauna Kea Observatory, one of the world's most famous stargazing sites.

If you want to make the best memories in Hawaii, I recommend this tour as a must-do.

Program

The falling stars that embroider the night,
Mauna Kea Stargazing Star Tour

When traveling to Maui, there is a Halekala sunrise and there is a beautiful sunset on the Big Island. At 4,205 meters above sea level, Mauna Kea volcano is 1,200 meters higher than Mau's Haleakala. If you add the height hidden above sea level, it is 10,203m, which is higher than Mount Everest.

Notably, it is not only the highest place in Hawaii, but also the second tallest mountain in the world. It is famous for being home to the world's largest astronomical observatory, where tourists from all over the world come to see the spectacular skyline. The feeling of the clouds gradually approaching us was new, and I was once again amazed by the stunning volcanic terrain. At Mauna Kea, the world's best stargazing spot, experience the stargazing sky full of stars and the amazing sunset over a sea of clouds at the summit of Mauna Kea, 4250 meters above sea level.

enjoy the sunset

Tour itinerary introduction:

Mauna Kea Sunset & Stargazing

Saddle Road Drive
Mauna Kea Visitor Center Altitude Adaptation
Watch the sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea
star gazing
21:30 PM - Hilo area hotel drop off and end of tour

Introducing Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea is a whopping 10,203m, which is higher than Mount Everest. So, you can rest for about 40 minutes at the visitor center at the bottom of the hill and then go up. (Suddenly moving to a higher altitude can cause altitude sickness.) Here we warm up and prepare by drinking water.

Afterwards, board the van and go up to the top. On the way, a friendly guide tells us more about Mauna Kea. We hear stories about why there is an astronomical observatory on Mauna Kea, which we didn't know much about, and how a place like this was created by a volcano.

The summit of Mauna Kea we arrived at this way was truly amazing. You can have a very special experience with clouds under your feet. The view is truly unbelievable.

Meet the purple sky

The sky seen from the summit of Mauna Kea is colored purple. As the sun sets, the color of the sky changes mysteriously, and it is truly beautiful.

After seeing this wonderful sky, we move to a secret spot to enjoy star gazing in earnest. Now you can see the falling stars.

Falling stars embroider the night sky

No one has ever seen so many stars in person. You can only see stars like this on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. Here, you can hear stories from your guide about the constellations, as well as stories about the constellations of the native Hawaiians and the legends surrounding them.

A stargazing tour where you can experience real emotions that cannot be expressed in photos. I really recommend it!

Editor’s recommended points and tips

During my trip to Hawaii, the Mauna Kea stargazing tour was the most memorable. Would you say that the impact was so great? Sign up for and enjoy a tour that offers so many charms that you will regret not doing it.

Great tip here! There will be a waiting time of about 40 minutes before going up to Mauna Kea, so prepare a simple and sweet snack to eat during this time. Also, since it is an alpine area, the weather is cold, so I recommend bringing warm tops and bottoms. Enjoy unforgettable views at Mauna Kea!
