Learn how to make mochi from a professionally trained instructor in this cooking class of about 2 hours at a wagashi (Japanese confectionery) school in Meguro, Tokyo. Make mitarashi and black sesame dango and fruit daifuku by hand, watch demonstrations of mochi ice cream and warabi mochi, and learn about the cultural background of this beloved Japanese treat. After class, enjoy the mochi you made with a cup of warm hojicha and receive recipes so you can make them at home. This is a hands-on cooking class of about 2 hours at a wagashi school in Meguro. The instructor teaches in English and Japanese and shares the cultural significance of mochi in Japan and the background of this beloved snack. You will make or taste 5 kinds of mochi dishes.
Make dango and fruit daifuku by hand

Work the mochi dough with your own hands to make mitarashi dango, black sesame dango and fruit daifuku. When strawberries are not available, other fruit is used, and in March and April you will make hanami dango.
Watch demonstrations and taste a variety of mochi

Watch your instructor demonstrate how to make mochi ice cream and warabi mochi. You can also taste mochi ice cream and isobe mochi, grilled mochi glazed with soy sauce. In August, shaved ice served with dango is offered.
Enjoy your mochi with hojicha

After class, enjoy the mochi you made with a cup of warm hojicha. There is also time for photos, and you will receive downloadable recipes so you can make them again at home.
