Experience Hakata ramen and matcha
in a 70-year-old Japanese house
This small-group experience for up to 5 people takes place at "didi's house," a 70-year-old traditional Japanese house in a quiet neighborhood. Meet your guide at the Nagao 5-chome bus stop and travel about 5 minutes to the house, where your host, SONOGA didi, introduces herself and her home. With nearly 30 years of experience related to cultures across Asia, your host loves sharing everyday Japanese life with visitors. You will also learn how Hakata ramen, originally created for workers in the bustling port district, became one of Fukuoka's most famous dishes.
Make your own Hakata ramen

In the kitchen, prepare Hakata-style ramen, famous for its rich pork bone broth, with your host. Because authentic tonkotsu broth takes many hours to cook, the broth and noodles are prepared in advance so you can focus on creating your own ramen.
Adjust the seasoning of the broth, choose your preferred noodle firmness, and add authentic toppings commonly found at ramen shops in Hakata and Nagahama to create a bowl tailored to your taste. Then enjoy your ramen slowly in the relaxed atmosphere of a home.
Enjoy matcha and sweets in a cozy tea room

After the meal, move to the cozy upstairs tea room to enjoy matcha with Japanese sweets. Your host introduces basic tea ceremony etiquette and the cultural meaning of matcha in Japan.
