Highlights
At DARUMA CLUB in Nipponbashi, Osaka, you paint a Daruma doll, one of Japan's best-known lucky charms, and create a Daruma that is entirely your own. After learning about the history, meaning and symbolism of Daruma from the instructor, you choose one of 10 colors, each representing a different kind of luck, and design your doll. Sessions run in small groups of up to 8 people, so you can focus on every brushstroke and enjoy a calm, quiet time. You take your finished Daruma home as a special souvenir of your trip to Osaka.

Learn the history and meaning of Daruma
and make your own
The workshop takes place at DARUMA CLUB in Nipponbashi, central Osaka. It is within walking distance of Dotonbori and Kuromon Market, making it an easy stop between sightseeing. The experience begins with the instructor telling you about the history, meaning and symbolism of Daruma.
Choose your color from 10 options
Each Daruma color carries a different meaning of luck. Pick the base color you like from 10 options, then use the samples and the multilingual menu book to plan the face and characters you want to paint. Before painting the Daruma, you can practice by sketching your design on a practice sheet.
Focus on each brushstroke and finish your Daruma
Pick up a brush and paint a one-of-a-kind Daruma yourself. Away from the noise of the city, concentrating on each brushstroke gives you a calm, meditative time. Multilingual staff support you throughout, so you can join comfortably even if you are not confident in drawing.
Take your finished Daruma home as a souvenir
You can take your finished Daruma home. The workshop suits friends, couples and families, as well as solo travelers.
