From Taichung: Alishan Sunrise Day Tour - Zhushan Sunrise, Forest Railway & Sister Ponds

Depart Taichung before dawn
to see the Alishan sunrise

Board the vehicle at the pickup point you chose when booking (a hotel near Taichung Station, a hotel near Fengjia business district, or Taichung HSR Station) and head to Alishan. Departure is 01:30–02:00 on the day from October to March, and 23:30–24:00 the night before from April to September. Vehicles are assigned according to the number of passengers (e.g. 9-seater) and shared with other travelers. The whole trip takes about 12 hours.

Ride the Alishan forest train and greet the sunrise at Zhushan

Arrive at Alishan Station around 04:00 and take the small forest train up to Zhushan Station. From Zhushan Station, walk freely to the Zhushan sunrise viewing platform to watch the sunrise. Train fare is not included and must be paid separately.

Return to the forest recreation area via Zhaoping Station

On the way back, take the mini train to Zhaoping Station and enter Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. Admission to the forest recreation area is not included.

Stroll around the Sister Ponds and return to Taichung

After visiting the Sister Ponds in the forest recreation area, you can walk depending on your stamina, or buy a park shuttle bus ticket at Shouzhen Temple to return to where you were dropped off. Have Chiayi turkey rice for lunch (at your own expense), and the tour ends around 13:30 with the return to Taichung.
