The village recreates the houses and streets of old Yaeyama against a backdrop of rich nature. Walk among red-tiled old houses registered as national tangible cultural properties and soak up the atmosphere of the southern islands with the sound of the sanshin. You can re-enter as many times as you like on the day of your visit.

Feed squirrel monkeys and meet the animals

The village keeps a variety of animals, including water buffalo, crested serpent eagles and squirrel monkeys. Feeding the small squirrel monkeys, raised in an environment close to nature, is especially popular.

Try Ryukyu costumes, shisa painting and local food

You can try on traditional Ryukyu costumes and paint your own shisa, Okinawa's guardian lion. The restaurant serves Yaeyama soba, soki soba, Ishigaki-style zenzai and dishes made with local ingredients.

The mangrove forest of Nagura Anparu, a Ramsar wetland

There is also a tour of the mangrove forest at Nagura Anparu, registered under the Ramsar Convention, where you can observe rare plants and animals. A night tour to observe Ishigaki Island's starry sky is also offered.
