This is an admission ticket for Nikkozan Chuzenji Temple (Tachiki Kannon) on the shore of Lake Chuzenji. Chuzenji was founded in 784 by the monk Shodo Shonin, who opened Nikko, and is a branch temple of the World Heritage Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple. Its principal image, the Eleven-faced Thousand-armed Kannon (an Important Cultural Property), is said to have been carved by Shodo Shonin into a standing tree after he saw Kannon appear above the lake, which is why it is called "Tachiki Kannon" (standing-tree Kannon). You can see up close the statue that still welcomes visitors with a gentle expression.

Chuzenji was founded in 784 by Shodo Shonin and is a branch temple of the World Heritage Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple. It stands on the shore of Lake Chuzenji in Oku-Nikko, away from Rinnoji (Sanbutsudo and Taiyuin) in central Nikko. It is also the 18th temple of the Bando 33 Kannon pilgrimage, visited by many pilgrims. On the day of your visit, show your QR code at the ticket office and exchange it for a physical ticket before entering.

The principal image in the main hall, the Eleven-faced Thousand-armed Kannon (an Important Cultural Property), is said to have been carved by Shodo Shonin into a standing katsura tree after he saw Kannon appear above Lake Chuzenji. Still rooted in the ground, it welcomes visitors with a gentle expression.

The Godaido (五大堂) is a prayer hall enshrining the Five Wisdom Kings, and its ceiling features a large cloud dragon painted by Katayama Nanpu, a member of the Japan Art Academy. From the Godaido you can look out over Lake Chuzenji.
