Highlights
This is a single admission ticket for Taiyuin (大猷院) only, part of Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple. Taiyuin is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun of the Edo shogunate, and its World Heritage grounds hold 22 National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties along with 315 stone lanterns. Following Iemitsu's wish not to surpass Toshogu, where his grandfather Ieyasu is enshrined, it was decorated in gold and black for a solemn, calm look. The path from the Niomon Gate at the entrance through gate after gate up to the Haiden and Honden halls feels like climbing toward the heavens.

Explore Taiyuin,
resting place of the third shogun Iemitsu
Taiyuin is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun, and a World Heritage site belonging to Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple. This ticket gives admission to Taiyuin only, and a visit takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour. On the day of your visit, show your QR code at the ticket check point to enter.
Climb from the Niomon Gate to the Haiden and Honden
Starting from the Niomon Gate at the entrance, the path passes through several gates to the Haiden and Honden halls and feels like climbing toward the heavens. The grounds hold 22 buildings designated as National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties.
See the calm architecture in gold and black
Following Iemitsu's wish not to surpass Toshogu, where his grandfather Ieyasu is enshrined, Taiyuin was built in gold and black with a solemn, calm atmosphere.

Meeting point guide:
From JR Nikko Station or Tobu-Nikko Station, take a Tobu bus bound for Chuzenji Onsen or Yumoto Onsen for about 5 minutes, get off at Shinkyo, and walk about 5 minutes to Rinnoji.
By the World Heritage loop bus, it takes about 10 minutes; get off at Shodo Shonin-zo-mae and walk about 1 minute.
By car, it is about 10 minutes from Nikko IC on the Nikko-Utsunomiya Road.
