This is a ticket for "Toward the 50th Anniversary Collection 1: Self / Action", a collection exhibition held by The National Museum of Art, Osaka in Nakanoshima ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2027. Through works from Paul Cézanne, known as the father of modern art, to the mid-1960s, you can see how the meaning of the creating "self" and the act of creation has changed. Highlights of the museum's collection, including Picasso, Kandinsky, Duchamp, Giacometti and Yayoi Kusama, are shown together. On Friday evenings, you can also visit with the night discount ticket.
The National Museum of Art, Osaka opened in 1977 by taking over the former Expo Museum of Fine Arts in the Expo '70 Commemorative Park, and moved to Nakanoshima in 2004. It has focused on collecting and exhibiting contemporary art from 1945 to the present, and its collection also includes modern art.
To mark its 50th anniversary in 2027, the museum holds two collection exhibitions in 2026. "Collection 1" is the first, looking back on the flow of art and its historical background up to 1977, when the museum opened.
Covering the period from Paul Cézanne to the mid-1960s, the exhibition shows the establishment and change of the creating "self" and the shifting discourse around the "act" of creation. Works by Japanese and international artists are featured, including Paul Cézanne, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Giorgio Morandi, Alberto Giacometti, Jean Dubuffet, Yayoi Kusama, Quac Insik and Zao Wou-Ki.
The night discount ticket can be used only on Fridays from 17:00 to 20:00 and is valid until October 30, 2026. The museum is open until 20:00 on Fridays, and last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
※ The exhibition runs from July 19 (Sun) to November 3 (Tue, holiday), 2026.
※ Participating artists are subject to change.
