Highlights
After pickup from your accommodation in Kota Kinabalu, travel to the Kiulu River and raft down through lush rainforest. With mostly gentle rapids, it is great for families, and you will pass traditional Dusun villages and can swim in calm sections of the river. A professional guide gives a thorough safety briefing before you set off, and after rafting you enjoy lunch by the river. The tour runs in small groups of up to 8 people and includes round-trip pickup and insurance.

Depart from Kota Kinabalu
and enjoy Kiulu River rafting in one day
After pickup from your accommodation in Kota Kinabalu, drive past villages and rice fields to the Tamparuli district. At the end point in Kiulu Town, leave your valuables and change clothes, then continue to the starting point at Pukak or Sukang.
Listen to the safety briefing and get your rafting gear
At the starting point, meet your river guide, receive rafting equipment such as a helmet, life jacket and paddle, and listen to the safety briefing. Before setting off, there is also time to take photos or take a short walk on the nearby suspension bridge.
Raft down the Kiulu River through the rainforest
Raft about 7–15 km along the Kiulu River for 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Ride gentle rapids, paddle through calm sections and take in the rainforest scenery. You can also stop for a swim in calm parts of the river.
At the end point, wash up, change into dry clothes and enjoy lunch by the river (usually a barbecue or buffet). After lunch, return to Kota Kinabalu by vehicle.
