This small-group tour departs from San Pedro de Atacama and takes you to the highlights of the Atacama Desert highlands in one day. Have breakfast at the Miscanti and Miñiques altiplanic lagoons at 4,200 m above sea level, then see the uniquely colored stones and salt flat scenery of Piedras Rojas at the Salar de Talar. Start the day with breakfast
at altiplanic lagoons at 4,200 m
After pickup from your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama at around 6:00–6:30 AM, travel for about 1 hour by van in a small group of up to 14 people. Your first stop is the Miscanti and Miñiques altiplanic lagoons at 4,200 m above sea level. Walk along the shore while listening to your guide, enjoy breakfast surrounded by the lagoon scenery, and observe the local flora and fauna.
Discover Piedras Rojas at the Salar de Talar
Next, head to the Salar de Talar, home to Piedras Rojas. Spend about 1 hour exploring with your guide and take in the landscape where uniquely colored stones meet the salt flat.
Explore the Atacameño village of Socaire
Travel to Socaire, a highland village of the Atacameño people, and learn about the local culture as you see its terraced fields and village church. You will have about 30 minutes to explore the village freely.
Visit Chaxa Lagoon on the Salar de Atacama and Toconao
Head to the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile. Chaxa Lagoon, inside the National Flamingo Reserve, is home to three species of flamingos and other animals, and lunch is served nearby. Then stop at Toconao for a rest and photos before returning to San Pedro de Atacama at around 4:00 PM.
