This half-day tour leaves San Pedro de Atacama before dawn for the geothermal field of the El Tatio Geysers (Geysers del Tatio). Around sunrise, walk with your guide among steam columns rising from the geysers, hundreds of boiling pools and the high peaks surrounding the field. After breakfast on site, look for wildlife around the Putana River on the way back and stop at Machuca, a village where traditionally built houses remain. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included for an easy trip.
Program
1. Early morning hotel pickup
Pickup from your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama early in the morning and drive to El Tatio (about 2 hours), arriving at the geothermal field around sunrise.
2. El Tatio Geysers
Walk with your guide through the geothermal field, where temperatures drop below freezing at dawn, and see the geysers' steam columns, fumaroles and boiling pools. After the hike, enjoy breakfast with the group (about 2 hours).
3. Putana River · Machuca village
On the way back, look for wildlife around the Putana River and visit Machuca, where residents still live in traditionally built houses (about 30 minutes).
4. Return to San Pedro de Atacama
Return to San Pedro de Atacama and drop-off at your accommodation (about 1 hour). The rest of the day is yours.
