Hokkaido's nature and history in one place
at the Hokkaido Museum in Sapporo
This is a main exhibition ticket to the Hokkaido Museum in Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo. In a building inspired by Hokkaido's red brick architecture, follow the island's story from its geological origins to the present day.
Opening hours are 09:30-17:00 from May to September and 09:30-16:30 from October to April, with last entry 30 minutes before closing. Closed on Mondays (the next weekday if Monday is a holiday) and from December 29 to January 3.
Meet mammoths and Naumann's elephants
Reconstructed skeletons of prehistoric mammoths and Naumann's elephants greet visitors, followed by exhibits tracing how Hokkaido changed through the ages.
Traditional Ainu culture
Discover exhibits on the traditional houses, tools and culture of the Ainu, the indigenous people of Hokkaido, and see how Hokkaido differs culturally from mainland Japan.
Nature and ecosystems of a cold region
Informative, interactive displays introduce Hokkaido's unique wildlife and cold-region ecosystems. The museum lies within Nopporo Forest Park, with pleasant nature trails nearby.
