Leave Seoul and explore the main sights
of the DMZ in a small group
Meet at Anguk, Myeongdong, or Hongik Univ. station, whichever you chose, and travel by minibus or van to the DMZ in Paju. You visit Imjingak Peace Nuri Park, the Third Tunnel, Dora Observatory, and Tongilchon village in turn, while a live English-speaking guide explains Korea's division and modern history. The group is limited to 13 people, so it is easy to ask your guide questions. Entrance fees are included, and lunch is not.
See traces of division at Imjingak Peace Nuri Park
The first stop is Imjingak Peace Nuri Park. With your guide, you see places that show the history of division, such as the Mangbaedan altar, the Bridge of Freedom, and the Jangdan Station steam locomotive. You spend about 20 minutes each at the Imjingak Tourist Information Center and the Bridge of Freedom.
Go into the Third Tunnel
At the Third Tunnel, you spend about 1 hour walking through the tunnel and looking around while your guide explains. You can ask the guide directly about the background and meaning of the tunnel's discovery.
Look toward North Korea from Dora Observatory
At Dora Observatory, you spend about 50 minutes looking out over North Korea while hearing explanations. With the northern landscape spread out in front of you, you can get a real sense of what the DMZ is.
Stop at Tongilchon and hear a defector's story
Finally, you spend about 20 minutes looking around Tongilchon village.
On options that include the live talk with a North Korean defector, you view exhibits showing daily life in North Korea and watch a short documentary, and then the defector shares their own escape story. A Q&A session follows, so you can ask questions directly.
