The JR South Kyushu Rail Pass is a pass that allows you to freely travel from Miyazaki Airport and Station to Kumamoto, Kagoshima, and Oita during a set period. It allows unlimited use of JR limited express trains, rapid trains, and local trains in the southern Kyushu area.

How far can I go with the JR Nam Kyushu Rail Pass?

Since Kumamoto is really popular these days, this pass is often purchased by people who arrive at Miyazaki Airport and enjoy a trip to Kumamoto or travel to Oita.
Introducing available trains
The JR Nam Kyushu Rail Pass allows unlimited rides on most JR lines for a set period of time. Currently, only 3-day passes are available for the Nam Kyushu Rail Pass.

- Unlimited use of JR lines, Shinkansen, limited express, and local trains throughout southern Kyushu
- Pass exclusively for short-term foreigners
The destinations that can be traveled using the JR South Kyushu Rail Pass are divided into Kumamoto, Oita, Kagoshima, and Miyazaki.
Mainly, the sales volume of the South Kyushu Rail Pass is high in destinations south of Fukuoka, such as Kumamoto and Kagoshima, which are really pretty small cities. In fact, even a round trip to Kagoshima costs more than the pass price, so unless there are special circumstances, you won't lose money with this pass.
The trains you can board are the three trains that run in the southern part of Kumamoto Oita.

Do I have to use the 3-day pass consecutively?
The JR South Kyushu Rail Pass 3-day pass is only valid for consecutive days . In other words, if you first used it on January 1st, the 3-day pass will expire on January 3rd. You cannot skip days in between non-consecutive days.

The JR South Kyushu Rail Pass allows you to use all Shinkansen (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame, Kamome) within the designated operating area, including reserved and non-reserved seats. It also allows you to use all limited express trains within the designated operating area, as well as local trains within the designated operating area.
However, the JR Kyushu Rail Pass cannot be used on the Shinkansen between Hakata and Kokura, which is part of the Sanyo Shinkansen operated by JR West!
How to reserve a reserved seat

* Reservations can be made before exchanging (issuing) the actual pass.
* Fare: D&S train (tourist train) → 1,500 yen Regular express → 1,000 yen (per seat)
* Children's fare is half the adult fare.
* For the special express "36 Plus 3 (36purasu 3)", the fare varies depending on the section.
* Advance seat reservations are available from 10:00 AM one month prior to the boarding date.
* The advance reservation fee for reserved seats will be paid directly by credit card when you reserve your seat on the JR Kyushu website.
