Cairns Great Barrier Reef & Rainforest Scenic Helicopter Flight

Take off in a helicopter
over the Great Barrier Reef

Depart from the wharf helipad at Marina Point in central Cairns and fly first over the Great Barrier Reef. After admiring the reef, cross back over the coastline near Double Island and the resort town of Palm Cove. Throughout the flight, your experienced pilot provides English commentary on the sights below.

Look down on Barron Gorge National Park and Kuranda

Climb over the rainforest-covered coastal range into the heart of Barron Gorge National Park. Above the canopy you can see the Barron River and the rainforest village of Kuranda, and spot the tracks of the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the gondolas of the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

Follow Barron Falls back toward the sea

From the top of the gorge, descend along the 250 m rock face of Barron Falls. The falls are impressive year-round, but after heavy rain in the wet season (December to April) they make for spectacular photos. You also fly over Stoney Creek Falls.

The flight finishes by following the Barron River for about 5 km as it winds down the gorge toward the sea. The river provides hydroelectric power to Cairns and is also known for white-water rafting.
