Fox Glacier Heli-Hike Tour

Get briefed in Fox Glacier village
and head to the helipad

At 44 Main Road in Fox Glacier village, receive a safety briefing of about 30 minutes and collect your gear, including leather boots and socks, crampons, walking poles, a waterproof jacket and overtrousers. Then take a 5-minute bus ride to board your helicopter.

Fly over Fox Glacier by helicopter

Fly over Fox Glacier for about 5 minutes and enjoy aerial views of ice caves, icefalls and Victoria Falls, a meltwater river flowing from the hidden Victoria Glacier. The helicopter lands on the ice in a remote area of the glacier.

Walk the glacier along ice steps for up to 3 hours

Wearing crampons designed for the ice, follow the ice steps cut by your guide and explore glacial formations and ice caves. Listen to commentary from your expert local guide, take photos and spend up to 3 hours on the ice, depending on the weather. As the terrain keeps changing, every tour offers a different route and scenery.

Return to the village by helicopter and bus

After the hike, return to the starting point at 44 Main Road by helicopter (about 5 minutes) and bus (about 5 minutes). The tour ends after a short 10-minute break.
