In this craft experience in Asakusa, Tokyo, you turn a vintage Japanese coin into your own ring. Choose your favorite from coins of the Meiji, Taisho, Showa and other eras, each with its own design and texture, then heat, hammer and bend it into a ring under the guidance of an English-speaking local artisan. Every coin has been through a traditional purification ritual at Zeniarai Benten (the money-washing shrine), so your ring carries a wish for good luck. The center of the coin punched out while forming the ring is made into a necklace, so you take home two pieces from a single coin.

Choose a vintage Japanese coin
full of good luck
Start by choosing your favorite from vintage Japanese coins of the Meiji, Taisho, Showa and other eras, each with its own design, history and texture. The workshop staff take every coin to Zeniarai Benten (the money-washing shrine) for a traditional purification ritual, so your finished ring carries a wish for good luck and prosperity.
Shape the coin into a ring with a local artisan

Using professional tools, you heat, hammer and bend the coin, gradually transforming it into a ring. A skilled artisan guides you carefully step by step, so even beginners can follow along with confidence. The instructors are local Japanese creators who love to travel, and they share stories about Japanese culture in English.
Fit it to your finger and polish it to a shine

Fine-tune the ring so it fits your finger perfectly, then polish it. Depending on the finish you like, you can go for an antique look, a modern look or something in between. Before you finish, you will get an explanation of aftercare products and simple care tips.
Take home a necklace made from the coin's center

The center of the coin punched out during shaping is turned into a matching necklace. You can take home both a ring and a necklace made from one vintage Japanese coin as a keepsake of your trip to Tokyo.
※ If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you may not be able to join the experience because the next guests will be waiting.
