Leave Tokyo and head to
a famous Mt. Fuji photo spot
Depart Tokyo early in the morning and ride about 2 hours by minibus to the Fuji Five Lakes area. The first stop is the Hikawa Clock Shop street, a photo spot where Mt. Fuji rises behind a row of traditional shops. Spend about 20 minutes taking photos and looking around.
Stroll along Lake Yamanaka with the swans
Move on to Shirahama shore on Lake Yamanaka, the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes, for about 40 minutes of free time. Swans swim on the calm water, and on clear days you may see Mt. Fuji reflected on the lake.
Ride the Hakone Ropeway up to Owakudani
Leave the Fuji area for Hakone. From Sounzan Station, ride the Hakone Ropeway for about 30 minutes over forests and volcanic terrain up to Owakudani. The ropeway ticket (about 1,600 yen one way) is paid on site, and guests who skip the ropeway can travel to Owakudani by vehicle.
Owakudani is a valley formed by a volcanic eruption about 3,000 years ago, and sulfur steam still rises from the ground. Taste the famous black eggs boiled in hot spring steam and enjoy about 1 hour of free time with lunch at a local restaurant (meal at your own expense).
Visit Hakone Shrine and the torii on the water
Spend about 1 hour at Hakone Shrine, surrounded by a cedar forest. Walk through the grounds to the red Peace Torii standing in the waters of Lake Ashi. After sightseeing, return to Tokyo by vehicle, arriving around 17:30 (may be delayed by traffic).
