ANCHORAGE HAKATA is a kickboxing and Muay Thai gym a 7-minute walk from Hakata Station, where local members train every evening. Rather than a studio built for visitors, you take a 60-minute class at a real working gym in a small group of up to 4 people. All equipment is provided, so you can come straight from sightseeing with nothing in your bag.

Learn step by step from warm-up to basic moves

Start with a warm-up and jump rope, then learn the basic stance, guard, footwork, and simple strikes in English. You don't need to speak Japanese: the trainer demonstrates every move, so you can easily follow along.

Strike the heavy bag and pads with full power

Practice the moves with shadow boxing, then move to the heavy bag to work on power and rhythm, and finish with two focused rounds on the pads. The trainer works with you one-on-one and sets the pace that suits you. There is no partner sparring at all.

Shower after your workout and head to dinner

The gym has showers and changing rooms, so you can go straight out for dinner after your workout. Classes run at 6:30 PM, 7:30 PM, and 8:30 PM, making them easy to fit in after a day trip to Yufuin or Dazaifu, and daytime slots are also available.
