Change into training wear at a Kyoto machiya
and begin your samurai experience
When you arrive at the traditional Kyoto townhouse (machiya) with over 100 years of history, you will receive and put on authentic training wear and equipment. Everything from uniforms to shoes is prepared, so you can focus on the experience without any preparation.
Learn samurai etiquette and sword handling

Your instructor first explains samurai etiquette, sword safety rules and proper posture. No prior experience is required. You will then learn the correct grip, stance and basic movements with training swords that are safe yet feel real, such as bamboo swords, foam swords and detailed replicas.
Once you have the basics, practice sword movements such as strikes, blocks and footwork in an atmosphere that values respect, focus and discipline.
Capture photos and videos in samurai attire

Strike a pose in full samurai attire while your instructor helps take photos and videos. You will also hear about the meaning of the samurai spirit and the development of kendo, deepening your understanding of Japanese warrior culture.
Return your equipment and wrap up

After about 2 hours, return your equipment and finish the experience. Sword replicas are not included but can be purchased on site.
