About the Host

Program

Take the train from Demachiyanagi
to the mountain village of Kurama

Meet your guide at Demachiyanagi Station and ride the train for about 50 minutes to Kurama, a traditional mountain village in northern Kyoto. The train fare from Demachiyanagi to Kurama is included.

Walk through Kurama-dera and the cedar forest

Spend about 3.5 hours with your guide walking around the historic Kurama-dera area and its beautiful cedar forest. The walk is easy to moderate, with time to take photos at scenic spots, enjoy the views and learn about local culture. Temple admission is included, and in autumn you can enjoy the fall foliage.

Enjoy a Japanese lunch and visit Kurama Onsen

After the walk, your guide will show you where to enjoy a local Japanese lunch. If you wish, you can also visit Kurama Onsen, a traditional mountain hot spring surrounded by forest. Kurama Onsen welcomes guests with tattoos, making it especially appealing to international travelers.
