Highlights

Program
Depart from Nagoya and
see Takayama and Shirakawa-go in one day
Meet in front of the Ministop near Nagoya Station and head by bus to Hida Takayama in Gifu Prefecture. With your guide, explore Takayama's old town and the gassho-zukuri village of Shirakawa-go in turn before returning to Nagoya. The whole tour takes about 10 hours.
Walk the old streets of Takayama's old town
After about 2 hours 30 minutes by bus from Nagoya, you arrive in Takayama and spend about 2 hours 30 minutes on a guided tour and a walk through the old townscape. Canals flow beneath latticed eaves, sakabayashi balls made of cedar leaves hang from the eaves of sake breweries, and old shops are lined with noren curtains. Lunch is also taken here (meals are not included).
Stroll through the gassho-zukuri village of Shirakawa-go
After about 1 hour by bus from Takayama, you arrive in Shirakawa-go and spend about 1 hour 30 minutes on a guided tour and a walk. Shirakawa-go is a UNESCO World Heritage gassho-zukuri village where more than 100 gassho-zukuri buildings remain and residents still live today.
Look down on the whole village of Shirakawa-go from the observatory
The 08:15 departure option stops at the Shirakawa-go Observatory (Ogimachi Castle Ruins Observatory). You can take in Shirakawa-go's signature panorama of thatched-roof houses and the surrounding mountains at a glance. At the end of the day, the bus takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to return to the starting point in Nagoya.
